General Information
San Blas Plantation is one of the last natural, secluded, subdivisions on Cape San Blas, FL. Currently, most lots are not developed, and there is only one other person who lives here on a full time basis. There is one new home being built, but that is the first one in years. Out of the other handful of homes, only (3) are on the rental market, which in essence, leaves you with the place to yourself most of the time. We have our own private beach boardwalk, and you are less than 5 minutes from your front door, to dipping your toes into the gulf. We also have bay access (St Joe Bay), which is great for anchoring your crab trap in the morning, and harvesting dinner at sunset. This back to nature neighborhood is a rare find, be sure to sample an evening here - the sprays of stars amongst stars, is simply breathtaking!
After our subdivision, traveling west, there is only one other development, beyond that, all the land for the next few miles is owned by the military. This affords you the opportunity to walk on the beach for over 2 hours with no houses at all, as well as keeping the competition down for surf fishing. The shore here, as well as the rest of the cape, is "Old Florida"- no high rises, just rolling dunes.' They still allow dogs on the beach here, which is uncommon these days - and talk about your doggy heaven....woof, woof!!!! But don't take our word for it, bring your four legged friend down for a walk, their tail will be still be wagging non-stop long after you leave, and you will rise up a peg or two on the proverbial pedestal they already keep you on. Also, the beach is very wide at this section of the cape, and is actually growing each year, in lieu of washing away, as is happening further down the cape. Driftwood is plentiful, which is ideal for bonfires - yes, they are permitted as well. A wide array of beautiful seashells abound, especially in the winter months. Our beach is the only one in the area which allows horseback riding, and the sunset rides.... well, hard to describe, but 'spectacular' comes to mind. They even offer moonlit rides, very romantic. The beach is never crowded here, even on our busiest day of the year, July 4th, we only counted 20 people as far as our eyes could see!
Homeowners Association
The homeowners association is not active, but most of us heed the original by-laws. There is no reason someone could not reactivate the contract if they wish, we are all just so busy playing in our little piece of paradise, it's just not top on our priority list - seashells to find, fish to catch, sunsets to watch, etc. - that's a pretty tough and time consuming job in and of itself, but hey...someone's got to do it. We have formed an LLC, "Friends of San Blas Plantation", in order to maintain the boardwalk, and avoid any liability issues. Just keep a few hundred dollars in it at any given time, and we all just give what is needed, when it's needed.
